This investigation takes place entirely within Joshua Tree National Park. It follows the officially protected landscape while examining what the park chooses to preserve, interpret, and leave unaddressed.
The focus is on designated sites, sanctioned narratives, and the tension between conservation, tourism, and history inside a controlled environment.

This investigation moves outside both the village corridor and the National Park boundary. It covers the surrounding desert and nearby areas where oversight is minimal and the landscape is shaped by access, ownership, and informal use.
The emphasis is on locations that exist beyond official narratives, where history is less curated and the land retains fewer explanations.
